We are seeking to appoint candidates with strong pastoral skills who are flexible, enthusiastic and energetic to the following roles:

Teacher of Chemistry

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Teacher of Chemistry to join our team from 1st September 2017. Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Delivering high quality lessons
  • Facilitating the college’s goal of high student academic achievement
  • Informing parents about student progress
  • Engaging in the college’s pastoral care for all students in the college
  • Engaging in appraisals and reviews, and taking part in training and development

Teaching, GCSE and A-level, should be a passion for you and to be considered for this position you must hold a degree-level qualification and have enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance. Knowledge of the appropriate curricula would also be beneficial.

Head of Year (Sixth Form)

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Head of Year to join our dynamic Senior Pastoral Team from 1st September 2017.
 
The position has two main duties; responsibility for the Sixth Form students and the management of their personal tutors, combined with teaching of a reduced timetable of A-level, GCSE or Foundation classes (within Art & Design, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Economics, English Language, English Literature, Government & Politics, History, Maths, Modern Foreign Languages, Physics and Psychology). Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:
 
(i) Senior Manager:

  • Management of pastoral care and discipline of upper sixth students, developing the Abbey Vision for Excellence among students
  • To lead and train a team of personal tutors; developing a sense of belonging in the college community
  • To meet the personal tutor team on a weekly basis
  • To work with colleagues for induction for new students
  • To develop and manage the delivery of the weekly personal tutor programme
  • To develop PSHE across the college
  • To manage and maintain Alumni relationships
  • To be responsible for ensuring the year group attain the college attendance target of 95% attendance
  • To monitor and respond to attendance, lateness, discipline and rewards
  • To run pastoral events such as the May Ball
  • To run Student Council and advocate the Student Voice
  • To work alongside the Senior Pastoral Team, reporting to the Vice Principal Pastoral

(ii) Teaching and Learning

  • The Head of Year will teach timetabled lessons during the academic year on a reduced timetable
  • In this role the Head of Year will report to their Head of Department for academic issues
  • To deliver high quality lessons
  • To facilitate the college’s goal of high student academic achievement
  • To engage in appraisals and reviews, and taking part in training and development
