Gold Medals for Chen Jiasheng
 

Chen Jiasheng (China; Upper 6th) attended a presentation ceremony at The Royal Society, London, on 28 April to mark his achievements in the 2011 Physics Olympiad and his selection to represent Great Britain at the International Physics Olympiad.  Emeritus Professor of Physics at Queen Mary, University of London, Peter I P Kalmus OBE, presented the prizes.

Chen Jiasheng was awarded Gold medals in rounds 2 and 3 of this year's Physics Olympiad.  He scored extremely high marks in round 3 and was invited to attend the British Physics Training Camp held at the Department of Physics, University of Oxford, from 4 to 7 April, where he was placed in the top 5.  He has since been invited to attend the Team Training events that are being held at Trinity College, University of Cambridge.

The International Physics Olympiad is an international physics competition for secondary school students.  The competition comprises 2 challenging 5-hour examinations, one theoretical, one experimental.  The 42nd International Olympiad is to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 10 to 18 July 2011.

Heather Peck of the Department of Physics, Abbey College Cambridge, attended the presentation.

Chen Jiasheng holds a conditional offer from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, to read Natural Sciences (Physical).
