Today Abbey College Cambridge welcomed South Cambridgeshire Member of Parliament, Heidi Allen. Mrs. Allen, who was invited to the college by our A Level Government and Politics students, gave a talk about her background in science and business, and how she got into politics after witnessing the Tottenham riots in 2011.
Mrs. Allen talked to our students about her political career so far, and about the daily demands of life as a politician in Westminster and in her South Cambridgeshire constituency. She then spent time answering questions from our students on subjects that ranged from Brexit, how Parliament works, and feminism in politics, to her own greatest achievements and even Margaret Thatcher’s dietary habits! On behalf of the college we would like to thank Mrs. Allen for taking time out of her busy schedule to share her experiences and inspire our students.
