Student blog piece by Maia (Year 9)
“At my previous school, most classes had around 30 children. This meant that it was very difficult for the teacher to be able to help each student individually, and it was easy to feel overlooked or left behind. However, my lessons here only have 11 people in them, including myself, which makes the learning experience feel very student-focused. The smaller class sizes mean that teachers have more time to answer questions, give feedback, and support each student’s learning. It also creates a quieter, more focused environment where it’s easier to concentrate and take part in class discussions.”
“The science labs have modern equipment, so we can do practical experiments properly. Classrooms also have good technology to help with learning. We also make the most of being in the middle of Cambridge. We use the University of Cambridge athletics track for PE lessons and Sports Day, which is a great place for sports and outdoor activities.”
“Abbey College Cambridge is an international school, which means that students come from many different countries and cultural backgrounds. This creates a friendly and diverse environment where everyone feels welcome. All students, no matter their ethnic background, get the chance to learn about different cultures and ways of thinking. This helps them develop a broader view of the world, learn to respect and understand others, and get ready for life in a global and connected society. It also helps improve communication and teamwork skills, as students often work with classmates from different parts of the world.”
“The teachers at Abbey College Cambridge are not only knowledgeable in their subjects, but also extremely easy to approach. Before I came here, it was always very difficult for me to ask for help from teachers, partially because they didn’t seem very focused on each individual of the class. Here at Abbey Cambridge, I can easily ask for assistance if I need it, as teachers seem genuinely interested. This makes a big difference, especially when preparing for exams or working on challenging topics.”
“Abbey College Cambridge has a strong focus on helping students achieve high academic results. There is a clear structure to lessons and regular assessments to track progress, so students know what they are doing well and what they need to improve. The school also offers support to any students that need it. This focus on academic achievement and future goals creates an environment where students are encouraged to do their best and think ahead.”
