What is a Pre-Degree Diploma at Abbey College Cambridge? – Student Blog

Student blog piece by Nachanok (Year 12)

At Abbey College Cambridge, all A-Level and IFP students complete the Pre-Degree Diploma (PDD) because it helps us prepare for university.

The PDD gives students more knowledge and skills that are useful for higher education. It also helps students learn how to work independently and apply what they study to real life. This program makes the transition to university easier and helps students become more confident in their studies.

As part of the PDD program, we complete a project in our chosen area. For my project, I am making a wind tunnel to study how air moves and to test aerodynamics.

This project is interesting because it allows me to use what I have learned in a practical way. I will learn more about fluid dynamics and airflow by testing different shapes in the wind tunnel. This is useful for engineering and car design. Also, this project helps me improve my problem-solving skills because I have to think about air speed, pressure, and turbulence when building the wind tunnel.

In my opinion, the PDD program is important for all students who want to go to university. It helps students study a subject in more detail, do independent research, and improve critical thinking skills.

The program also helped me understand what I really enjoy and what I want to study in the future. Through this experience, I found out that I am very interested in Physics and Engineering. This will help me make decisions about my education and career.

Overall, the PDD at Abbey College Cambridge is a very useful program that improves learning and helps students get ready for university and their future careers.
