This year’s school trip to Greece was nothing short of extraordinary – a perfect blend of history, culture, and personal growth. From the sacred ruins of Delphi to the bustling streets of Athens, and from the legendary gates of Mycenae to the birthplace of the Olympic Games, our students didn’t just learn about the past – they lived it.
Our adventure started in the picturesque village of Arachova, where students enjoyed local cuisine and explored charming streets. Just a short drive away lay Delphi, home to the ancient Temple of Apollo and the famous inscription, “Know thyself”. Standing on those historic paths, students reflected on their own identities and ambitions, making this more than just a history lesson – it was a moment of self-discovery.
In Athens, we climbed the Acropolis to marvel at the Parthenon, a masterpiece of architecture that has stood for thousands of years. Exploring the Ancient Agora, once a hub of lively debate and commerce, gave students a glimpse into the roots of democracy and leadership. The day ended with time to wander the city, shop for souvenirs, and – of course – meet some of Greece’s famous stray cats, whose playful presence added joy to our journey!
Walking through the Lion Gate of Mycenae transported us back to the age of Agamemnon and epic tales of heroism. At Epidaurus, the perfectly preserved theatre amazed us with its incredible acoustics – so much so that we couldn’t resist testing them with a few dramatic performances!
Our final stop was Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Students ran on the original track, cheered each other on, and embraced the values of teamwork, respect, and fun. Visiting the archaeological museum deepened our appreciation for the artistry and athleticism that defined ancient Greece.
This trip wasn’t just about monuments and museums – it was about connection, curiosity, and growth. Students returned home enriched with knowledge, confidence, and friendships, carrying with them the timeless lesson of the Greeks: “Know thyself”. Through temples, teamwork, laughter, and even a little shopping, they truly did just that!
