Learn about our earth and how human activities impact upon it.  Geography is about understanding the Earth and our place upon it. It examines how landscapes and countries differ, how natural and human environments interact.

With growing interest in issues such as climate change, migration, environmental degradation and social cohesion Geography is one of the most relevant subjects you could choose to study. A level students cover a broad scope of materials and gain vital insights into the world around us.

WHAT IS GEOGRAPHY?

Geography is the study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and how it is affected by human activities, such as the distribution of populations, resources, and political and economic activities. Geographers deal with vital issues such as climate change, migration, environmental degradation, social issues and natural hazards.

WHY STUDY GEOGRAPHY?

With growing interest in issues such as climate change, migration, environmental degradation and social cohesion Geography is one of the most relevant subjects you could choose to study. A level students cover a broad scope of materials and gain vital insights into the world around us.

More than 80 UK universities offer Geography related degrees covering a wide range of topics and specialisms. Geography graduates are some of the most employable, having developed knowledge and transferrable skills that enable them to work across a wide range of sectors and roles.

Typical geography careers include environmental consultation, cartography, town planning, conservation, surveying, landscape architecture, teaching, disaster management, international aid and tourism.

WHAT WILL I STUDY IN A LEVEL GEOGRAPHY?

We follow the CIE specification. All components will be externally assessed, comprising of four exam papers each with equal weighting (worth 25% of A Level).

In year one we study the following Core Geography topics: Hydrology and fluvial geomorphology, Atmosphere and weather, Rocks and weathering, Population, Migration and Settlement dynamics.

In the second year we study the flowing Advanced Geography topics: Coastal environments, Hazardous environments, Economic transition, and Global interdependence.

GOOD SUBJECT COMBINATIONS

Geography is considered a rigorous, academic A level by all leading universities and provides students with a breadth of knowledge and important skills for their future studies. Geography dove tails with many other subjects, such as Economics, History, Biology, Physics and Politics.
