Course Overview

This intensive two-week programme is designed to prepare students for successful entry into UK sixth form and university study. The course combines academic skills development, English language enhancement, university preparation, and subject-specific taster lessons to give students a realistic and supportive introduction to higher-level study in the UK.

The curriculum content is:

1. Academic Skills & Study Readiness

Students develop essential academic skills required for UK education, including:

  • Effective note-taking and active listening
  • Time management and independent study skills
  • Research methods and academic referencing
  • Understanding plagiarism and academic integrity
  • Academic writing, email etiquette, and group discussion skills

These sessions build confidence and independence in a UK-style learning environment.

2. English for Academic Success & IELTS Preparation

The programme includes daily English language development focused on academic and practical use:

  • Active, interactive English lessons
  • Project-based learning with research and report writing
  • IELTS preparation covering listening, speaking, and effective communication
  • Interview-focused English skills to support university and career progression

Students apply their English skills through presentations, written work, and discussions.

3. Subject Taster Lessons

To help students explore future study pathways, the course offers subject-specific taster lessons, including:

  • STEM subjects
  • Humanities subjects
  • Medicine Preparation Programme sessions

These lessons provide insight into subject content, teaching styles, and expectations at sixth form and university level.

4. University Preparation & Applications

  • Personal statement structure, content, and drafting
  • Interview preparation, including mock interviews and confidence building

Students work towards completing a strong personal statement by the end of the course.

  • CV writing and LinkedIn profile development
  • Financial literacy, including budgeting and accommodation planning
  • Practical guidance on healthcare and student life in the UK
