Dr Carolyn Dunn BSc (Hons), PhD, NPQH, was educated at St Cuthbert’s Grammar RC School in Bolton, Lancashire. She studied Chemistry and Earth Sciences at the University of Kent before undertaking a PhD in Liquid Crystals and Microemulsions at the University of East Anglia. Carolyn’s PhD thesis was sponsored by Unilever, and she spent time undertaking research at their laboratories in Port Sunlight. Carolyn has a teaching PGCE from Homerton College, University of Cambridge. She has 26 years of teaching experience and has spent the last 15 years in senior management positions at a range of schools.

Carolyn joined Abbey College Cambridge in 2015 as Head of Sixth Form. She particularly enjoys teaching Chemistry and encouraging girls to study Chemistry. As the leader of our college pastoral team, Carolyn is responsible for providing outstanding care for all students and developing the skills and qualities they need to become future pioneers and leaders.

Outside of school, Carolyn enjoys spending time with her family, reading, gardening, and learning Italian.

We are now accepting applications from local students for September 2026 entry scholarships at Abbey College Cambridge.

Abbey College Cambridge Scholarships Open

Generous scholarships are available for local students — for 13+ entry (Year 9), awards may be up to 100% of tuition fees. For  Year 12 entry there are scholarships offering up to a 20% discount.

Our scholarships recognise academic ability, critical thinking, teamwork and community contribution and are awarded based on performance at our assessment day on 29th January.
