Dr Cristina Alves Martins

Cristina completed her undergraduate studies in chemistry at the University of Lisbon, Portugal and undertook a PhD in organometallic chemistry at the University of East Anglia, UEA. Following her university studies, Cristina then worked as a research scientist in the field of cancer research at UEA and UCL School of Pharmacy. Her teaching experience began whilst studying and working at university, tutoring 1st year foundation degree and master’s degree students as well as working as an associate lecturer for the Open University, tutoring in a 3rd year degree course.

Cristina also holds a PGCE in secondary science education and a master’s degree in education, MEd, from the University of Cambridge.

Before joining Abbey, Cristina worked as a chemistry teacher at a comprehensive 11-18 secondary school in Suffolk and as a head of chemistry and science at an independent secondary school in Cambridge.

Outside of the college, Cristina enjoys canoeing, paddle boarding and swimming, mountain walking and going to the theatre.
