Joanne Dickerson

Head of Business & Accounting

Joanne has a degree in Business Studies and French. On graduating, Joanne secured a place on a Graduate Training Programme with United Biscuits, where she worked in Marketing for 3 years, developing and launching new products into major retailers. She also spent a further six years working for a Private Limited Company as Marketing Manager, where she had to manage a cross-functional team to support the growth of a variety of household-name brands.

Following 9 years working in business, Joanne moved into teaching, where she taught Business, gaining her teaching qualification on the job. Alongside this, Joanne also studied for a Master’s Degree in Education, passing at Distinction grade. Her final research project culminated in a focus on the impact of literacy on aspiration amongst young people.

Joanne has worked in two different comprehensive schools in the UK teaching Business Studies. Her additional responsibilities have also included being the Careers Leader where, with the support of Teach First, she developed a number of whole school strategies to improve careers provision across the school. Alongside this, Joanne also ran her own small business, teaching French to Primary School children.

Joanne joined Abbey College Cambridge in 2020 as a Teacher of Business and has since then been promoted to Head of Department of Business and Accounting.
