Max Receives Her Canadian Chemistry Contest Award From Dr Elena Hesse

Abbey College Cambridge student Max is celebrating after placing in the top 6.5% of students taking this year’s Canadian Chemistry Contest (CCC).

The Canadian Chemistry Contest (CCC) is carried out in conjunction with the Canadian Chemistry Olympiad (CCO) and the Chemical Institute of Canada. The CCC fosters an appreciation of chemistry as a career for talented young people and promotes national excellence in chemistry at the high school/Cégep level. Over 600 students write this exam annually, in conjunction with the CCO exam. The CCC is aimed at the top 10% of Canadian high school and cégep students under 20 years of age taking chemistry. The CCO is aimed at the top 5% of these students.

Max, who is originally from China and currently studying in the 1 Year GCSE programme at Abbey College Cambridge took the step to enter the contest herself. She sought the assistance of Abbey College Cambridge Chemistry teacher and Zeus Housemaster Paul Matthews to help her prepare for the competition. Paul commented on Max’s achievement; ”I was delighted when Max asked if she could be entered as an International student for the Canadian Chemistry Challenge 2023.  An excellent chemistry student who has worked hard this year, she took responsibility for preparing herself and her result is excellent.  Ranked 272/4172 internationally, Max finished in the top 6.5% and was awarded the Special Merit Award for exceptional achievement.  I wish Max every success as she progresses to A’ levels.”

Max was presented with her ‘Special Merit’ Award by Abbey College Cambridge Principal Dr Elena Hesse and Paul Matthews.
