A Level Results Day 2026: What to Expect and What to Do Next

4th August 26

Whether you’re feeling excited, nervous or somewhere in between, A Level Results Day is a significant milestone. After months of hard work and dedication, it’s time to discover your results and take the next step towards university and your future ambitions.

The most important thing to remember is this: whatever your results, you have options. Many students achieve the grades they need for their first-choice university, while others may need to consider alternative routes such as Clearing, a review of marking or retaking their A Levels. Whatever your outcome, there are opportunities to move forward with confidence.

To help you feel prepared, we’ve created this guide explaining what to expect on Results Day, what to do in different situations, and where to find support if your results aren’t quite what you hoped for.

Before Results Day

Preparing in advance can make Results Day feel much less overwhelming. Before the day arrives, make sure you:

  • Know when and how you’ll receive your results.
  • Have your UCAS Hub login details ready.
  • Keep the contact details of your chosen universities to hand.
  • Have a notebook or phone ready to record important information if you need to speak to admissions teams.
  • Talk through different scenarios with your family so you feel prepared for every outcome.

A little planning can help you stay calm and make informed decisions on the day.

If You Get the Grades You Were Hoping For

Congratulations! If you’ve met the conditions of your university offer, your place should be confirmed through UCAS. Take time to celebrate your achievement and look forward to the exciting journey ahead.

If Your Results Are Better Than Expected

Fantastic news! You may now have opportunities to consider universities or courses you hadn’t previously thought possible. Take time to review your options carefully before making any decisions.

If You Miss Your Offer

Missing your expected grades can feel disappointing, but it doesn’t mean your university ambitions are over. Many universities will still accept students who narrowly miss their offer, while Clearing provides thousands of students with the opportunity to secure places on excellent degree courses each year.

If your results aren’t what you expected:

  • Check the status of your university offers through UCAS.
  • Contact your chosen university to discuss your options.
  • Explore suitable courses through Clearing if needed.
  • Speak to teachers, advisers or admissions specialists before making any important decisions.
