Half-Term Adventure in Italy

6th November 26

During the half-term break, twelve Abbey students embarked on an unforgettable journey through some of Italy’s most iconic and historic destinations. The trip offered a perfect blend of culture, history, scenery, and gelato, providing students with experiences that will stay with them for years to come.

One of the highlights was a visit to the magnificent Colosseum in Rome. Walking through the ancient amphitheatre brought history to life as students learned about gladiators, emperors, and the remarkable engineering of Ancient Rome. The group also explored Vatican City, home to some of the world’s most famous religious and artistic treasures. From the grandeur of St Peter’s Basilica to the stunning masterpieces of the Vatican Museums, students gained a deeper appreciation of Italy’s rich cultural heritage.

The journey continued south to Pompeii, where students stepped back in time while exploring the remarkably preserved ruins of the ancient city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Seeing the streets, homes, and public buildings provided a unique insight into daily life nearly 2,000 years ago.

Students also enjoyed the spectacular beauty of the Amalfi Coast, with its picturesque villages, dramatic cliffs, and sparkling Mediterranean views. The stunning scenery provided plenty of opportunities for dazzling photographs and peaceful moments of reflection.

The trip concluded with a visit to Mount Vesuvius itself. Standing on the slopes of one of the world’s most famous volcanoes and looking out across the Bay of Naples was a fitting end to an incredible educational adventure filled with discovery, learning, and lasting memories.
