Graduation Day 2026: A Cohort Defined by Ambition, Inclusivity and Community

18th May 26

Congratulations Class of 2026!

Abbey College Cambridge proudly celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2026 in a memorable ceremony held at Homerton College – a fitting setting for a cohort that has distinguished itself not only through academic achievement, but through character, unity and resilience.

In her address, Principal Ellen Hesse reflected on the deeper story behind the cohort’s success. She reminded students that they are more than graduates; they are a collection of journeys shaped by different cultures, languages and experiences, brought together by a shared sense of ambition, tolerance and hope. Their time at Abbey has not only strengthened their academic abilities, but also refined their perspectives, building empathy, open-mindedness and a genuine respect for others.

As they leave Abbey College Cambridge, this year’s graduates step into the next chapter as a generation marked by purpose and adaptability. Universities and employers can expect a group of young people who are driven, collaborative and globally aware – individuals who understand that diversity is not a challenge to overcome, but a strength to be protected and celebrated.

Within this cohort are both quiet achievers and those whose energy lights up every room. Each individual, in their own way, has contributed to a culture where every voice is respected and every effort recognised – a balance that reflects the strength of a truly diverse and inclusive student body.

What has truly set the Class of 2026 apart is their unwavering commitment to inclusivity. As highlighted in the Principal’s speech, students have embraced the experience of living and learning within an international community, gaining not just knowledge, but understanding; not just ambition, but empathy. Time and again, they have chosen unity over division, actively cultivating an environment built on support, respect and belonging.

Principal Hesse likened their journey to a long cross-country run – one that required resilience, adaptability and courage. The path has not always been easy, and at times the finish line may have seemed distant. Yet through determination and mutual support, this cohort has navigated every challenge, learning when to push forward, when to pause, and when to rely on one another. That spirit of encouragement and shared success has defined their time at Abbey and will continue to guide them in the future.

Academically, the Class of 2026 has demonstrated remarkable dedication. These are self-starters who have balanced long hours of study with active engagement in sports, creative pursuits and friendships. Their contribution to the wider College community has been equally impressive, embodying the spirit of engagement that defines the Abbey experience.

The ceremony also celebrated outstanding individual achievements. Congratulations to Daniel Seungbum and Hannah, recipients of the prestigious Principal’s Award, recognising exceptional contribution and achievement. Special recognition was also given to:

  • Thompson – Sports Award
  • Arsham – Music Award
  • Rain – IFP Overall Student of the Year
  • Lu Alina – Anna Edmunds Triumph Over Adversity Award

Each of these students exemplifies the values celebrated across the entire cohort – determination, talent and resilience.

A particularly powerful moment in the ceremony came as the Principal spoke of “stillness” – a rare pause in busy lives to reflect, appreciate how far the students have come, and gather confidence for what lies ahead. It was a reminder that while change is constant, it should be met not with fear, but with openness and courage.

The celebration was also an opportunity to acknowledge the vital support network behind each student’s journey. Abbey College Cambridge extends sincere thanks to its dedicated staff, as well as to parents, guardians and agents, whose encouragement and guidance have helped shape this exceptional group.

As the Class of 2026 moves forward, they do so with pride, confidence and a strong sense of community. They leave behind not only a record of academic success, but a legacy of kindness, inclusivity and shared purpose.

Congratulations to the Abbey College Cambridge Class of 2026 – a cohort that truly embodies what it means to succeed together!
