British Physics Olympiad Round 2

Xie Junyu (Arthur) is celebrating after achieving a gold certificate in the second round of the British Physics Olympiad. To compete in the second round of the Olympiad Arthur ranked in the top 50 out of more than 2000 Physics students who took part in the first round. Arthur, who is a student in our Lower Sixth, is now being considered as one of the top 15 students who will attend a training camp at the University of Oxford’s Department of Physics.

Shi Zimu (Joe) also achieved a Bronze award in the second round of the British Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad.

UK Mathematics Trust Intermediate Maths Challenge

Our GCSE Mathematics students received an amazing 5 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze Certificates in total this year.

Students Li Haoran (Richard) and Guo Jinyu (Eric) both qualified for the next round, and will now take the highest level MacLaurin Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad papers. This places them in the top 500 students taking part nationally.

First year GCSE student Wu Qinjun (Michael) has also qualified for the next round, and will sit the younger age group Hamilton Intermediate paper. Zhou Aotian (Sky) from our one year GCSE course has qualified for the Pink Kangaroo follow-on paper.

UK Chemistry Olympiad

In this year’s Chemistry Olympiad 3 of our students received Silver awards: Bao Chau Nguyen, Liu Yifan (Euphie) and Wang Yuxuan (Iris). A further 3 students also received Bronze awards; Moe Thidar Aung (Erica), Zhao Weitang and Xu Zhe (Cyril). This continues our history of strong results in the Chemistry Olympiad.

British Biology Olympiad Round 1

Aleksandra Bazhenova received a Bronze certificate in this year Biology Olympiad and 3 of our students were highly commended (Ruey Harn Lim, Pham Minh Duy Nguyen and Ye Siyan) and 2 students commended (Victoria Tamunoibi, Karibo Alalibo and Alessa Minn Lee) for their efforts.

AS Physics Challenge and GCSE Physics Challenge

21 of our students took the AS Physics Challenge in early March. The Challenge is organised by the British Physics Olympiad. It provides a great opportunity for our first year A level students to assess their knowledge of fundamental Physics principals at key stage 5 and beyond.

This year also marked the first time we have entered students into the GCSE Challenge. 2 Students (Lu Honghao and Li Haoran) received Silver certificates, 1 students received a bronze certificate (Guo Jinyu) and 1 was commended (Daniyar Kunanbayev).

Well done to our all our students who took part, and good luck to those competing in the later rounds. To view more student competition results visit our Challenges and Olympiads page.
