Abbey College Cambridge Artists Learn All About the Creative Process at Warwick University

30th November 16

Some of our A Level Art and Design students recently visited the Warwick University to attend an event for budding artists entitled ‘The Creative Process’. At the event our students listened to renowned artists speak about how they make their work and the steps they have taken since they were students to achieve success. Artist’s speaking included Clare Woods, a fine artist and painter who has collaborated with a number of contempories on projects for the London Olympics, London Underground, and most notably with architect David Chipperfield on his design for the Hepworth Wakefield Art Gallery.

Rebecca Wright gave our students fantastic advice about portfolio preparation and sketchbooks – speaking on behalf of Central Saint Martins in her role as Head of Graphic Design. Simon Roberts spoke about his career as a professional photographer and Turner Prize winner, and Martin Creed delighted everyone with his intense musical performance.

Organiser and Abbey College Cambridge Art and Design teacher Frances Baker thought that the trip was great success, saying; ‘Visiting Warwick for this event has given our A Level Art students the perfect opportunity to learn more about the how artists create and how they work. It has also encouraged them to think about what their options after A Level and what creative subjects they might like to study at one of our world class universities. It was a great day!’
