DLD Students Business Studies Jaguar Land Rover Trip

Our AS and Pre-Degree Diploma Business Studies students gained a practical insight into operations management with a visit to the Jaguar Land Rover Factory in Solihull. The car manufacturer was acquired by TATA from Ford ten years ago and has enjoyed massive investment during this time to effectively doubled its capacity with the very latest in robotics.

In the morning students were given an overview of the company and the students were then split into two groups, one going out and doing a supervised factory tour and the rest staying behind to do team activities. In the afternoon they swapped over.

Activities were based around communication and lean production techniques. The students became very competitive and excelled at building models to order in short time!

The factory tour gave us first-hand visibility of the end to end production of Range Rover models. The students asked very insightful Operations and Human Resources questions and loved seeing the cars and robotics in action and being able to bring the text book to life in a unique fashion. All in all a great day and one we will look to repeat next year.
