Juan Fernandez Pottecher from Spain and John Lorusso from Uruguay achieved Distinction Awards in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1. This is a particularly impressive achievement for John as he is a year 10 students (most other Olympiad competitors will be in years 12 & 13). Emily Ma from China has also made it through to round 2 of the British Physics Olympiad – this places her in the top 100 student physicists in the country. Juan and Emil both have offers to study at Cambridge University in 2019.
Abbey College Cambridge Alumnus Shen Leyang (Ben) from China has secured a 3 month summer internship with ARM in Cambridge. ARM is a Cambridge based company, it is the world’s leading designers of processors used in mobile phones and tablet computers. Ben graduated from ACC in 2017 with 2 A* and 2 A grade A Levels and moved on to study Electronic Engineering and then a Masters in Engineering at Imperial College London.
Boy’s Basketball suffered their first loss of the season with a narrow 51-43 defeat to local college Hills Road. The boy’s winning streak had lasted for over a year, and they are confident of overturning the result the next time the two teams meet. Our Badminton first team won 9-0 against Robinson College in the Cambridge University Colleges League and they are hopeful of securing promotion to the league’s first division. New sports clubs for this term include Handball and Squash!
On Wednesday 13th February (11.30am UK time) we will be hosting live admissions Q&A on Facebook! Students will be able to ask any questions they have about studying at Abbey College Cambridge. Sign up on our Facebook page here.
This week we have welcomed a group of 19 Cambodian students who have been attending lessons and extra-curricular activities on campus to get a taster of life as an Abbey College Cambridge student.
