Abbey College Cambridge Art Student Secures Top Honour in Prestigious Competition

28th November 23

Abbey College Cambridge is celebrating the exceptional achievement of a talented student, who secured first place award at the prestigious Independent Schools Association (ISA) National Art Competition Finals.

Lina (Yu Chen) a Year 13 student worked hard to prepare her drawing of a Chicken, with the final piece demonstrating her talent, dedication and attention to detail.

Lina is a gifted artist currently preparing to take her A Level art and took first place in the Key Stage 5 Drawing category with her drawing of a Chicken, against some very impressive competition.  Lina’s drawing qualified for the national final, by first winning the regional ISA East competition.  She explained: “The drawing was a piece set for homework and I chose to draw a chicken because I love the minute details of the beautiful feathers in contrast to the gnarled claws. I wanted to draw it in monochrome with just the gentle brown of the paper being the only colour, so as not to distract from the detail.”

Following the success Dr Ellen Hesse, Principal, commented, “We are immensely proud of Lina for her outstanding achievement in the ISA National Art Competition Final; her commitment, creativity and artistic abilities are truly commendable. She is a very talented and hard-working student. Ever modest and self-effacing she always goes above and beyond in her work which is demonstrated by a drawing completed for a piece of homework can win a national prize! I would also like to express my gratitude to Serena, Head of Art, who nurtures all our students’ talents and encourage them to face challenges and put their learning into practice beyond the classroom.”
