Abbey College Cambridge Student Investor Challenge

Abbey College Cambridge student Volodymyr Federov is celebrating success after placing in the top 20 in the London Institute of Banking and Finance Student Investor Challenge round one league table.

The Student Investor Challenge is the UK’s premier investment competition, with over 400,000 students from 2,500 schools taking part. Entrants invest virtual money on the London Stock Exchange and aim to keep their stock portfolios healthy by following the ups and downs in the market, judging when to buy and sell in order to make a profit.

Volodymyr, who is from the Ukraine and studying on our International Foundation Programme Business Management and Economics Pathway, has been trading under the name of ‘Gordon Gecko’ and currently sits 16th 0ut of 4,865 competitors. His achievement is even more impressive as he has been trading as an individual, where most of the other competitors take part in teams of two or more students.

Abbey College Cambridge Economics Tutor David Tilley helps run the challenge and commented on Volodymyr’s achievement. “Volodymyr has shown an exceptional level of application his investment portfolio. He researched a wide variety of companies that would complement his investment strategy, and his success against some of the highest achieving schools in the country is well deserved”.

Volodymyr is now well placed to progress to the competition’s semi-finals, where the top 500 teams will need to correctly predict the closing price of certain assets, earning points for the accuracy of their prediction and how long their prediction has been held.

We wish the best of luck to both Volodymyr and the other Abbey teams taking part!
