Abbey College Cambridge Student Shortlisted for Prestigious National Photography Competition

Rain Wang Yu Tsoi, a Year 13 Art student at Abbey College Cambridge, has been shortlisted for the Norwich University of the Arts (NUA) Beyond the Frame 2026 Photography Competition, a remarkable achievement in a highly competitive international contest.
This year, the competition attracted just under 700 entries from talented young photographers aged 11 to 19 from across the UK and around the world. Only 51 students were selected for the final shortlist, placing Rain among an exceptional group of emerging creative talents.
Rain’s photograph formed part of a short Year 12 Art Project based on cityscapes and was shortlisted in the Places category for a striking photograph taken in China. The category celebrates imagery that captures culture, nature, architecture, and landscapes, encouraging young photographers to tell stories through the environments and places that inspire them.
For Rain, a simple moment became something much more. Through a keen artistic eye and thoughtful composition, the image transforms a place in China into a visual narrative that invites viewers to pause, reflect and connect with a different perspective of the world. It is this ability to communicate a sense of place and atmosphere that helped the photograph stand out among hundreds of entries.
The shortlisted works are being exhibited at Norwich University of the Arts from 9–11 July 2026, giving visitors the opportunity to experience the creativity and vision of some of the most promising young photographers internationally. Rain’s work is also featured on the official Beyond the Frame 2026 Shortlist online gallery.
