Shen Leyang studied A Levels in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics at Abbey College Cambridge and is going to Imperial College London to read Electronic and Information Engineering with a Year Abroad.

Abbey Cambridge is a very friendly community. During my 18 months here I have learned a lot from my friends. We not only help each other with our studies, but we have discussions and so learn of the perspectives of different cultures.
The teachers are knowledgeable, open-minded, and really care about their students. They have provided me with great advice on choosing a university and in understanding what universities are looking for.
My best memory from Abbey Cambridge is winning the Lower Sixth Conference. I had a wonderful team; we worked really well together and had a lot of fun. The staff were also very supportive. Moreover, I got the opportunity to meet the local branch manager of Handelsbanken and ask him questions, which was really exciting.
Volunteering at a hospice confirmed my choice to become a good and compassionate doctor in the future. I hope to return to my country once I have completed medical school and help people in rural areas.
The teaching at Abbey Cambridge is excellent. The teachers make lessons engaging so that students are interested in studying. It was very satisfying when my friends and I were studying hard for our AS exams and we all achieved great results
Visiting museums in London I learnt from outside the textbook, and so expanded my horizons. However, I have not just learnt at Abbey Cambridge, I have made lots of friends and built some great relationships with the teachers.
All of my friends are from across the world, but I feel no barrier between us, as we study and socialise together. The teachers are very supportive, open and helpful. The lessons are at a good pace; I always have to push myself to become better and better.
I had an amazing university advisor, who took great care in helping me to improve my personal statement. My individual subject advisors were also very helpful and frequently asked for updates concerning my application.
In the future I would like to study Economics, and the advice I have received for my UCAS application has definitely been a key factor in me getting offers. I hope that what I learn at university will help me to help my country escape from the current recession.
My best memory from the past few years at school has to be the biology field trip. We went hiking, gorge scrambling, and did many other adventurous activities. I became closer with my friends than ever before!

Abbey Cambridge provides the opportunity to take part in many clubs, so I had sufficient extra-curricular activities to show that I was a well-rounded individual on my university application, including yoga and volleyball. The school also organises many events, such as the May Ball, which was a truly wonderful night!
I like the innovative ways in which complicated topics are presented. Working in groups has helped me to improve my teamwork skills and grow closer to my classmates. Furthermore, my Head of Year has really helped me to cope with my dyslexia.
